Effects to the Environment

Physical Artwork: "Better Home!"

By Wang Yi Xin P5Y

Yi Xin was impressed to see how turtles gathered to the seaside to lay eggs, when beach activities were prohibited. He thought it provided a better life to the marine life, and humans were taking over their habitat. He drew aquatic organisms under the sea approaching to the shallow side with freedom.

By Lee Gyu Seong (Fairview Alumni)

"I wanted to show that the ecosystem is having a better environment after the lockdown. From the left, the red leaves are gradually turning green, which represents the health of the organisms getting better. Reduced human activity drew a conclusion that it benefits the ecosystem and provides them with a better home. I have never thought of any environmental aspects of this pandemic, but this was an opportunity for me to gain knowledge and reflect on how we affect the environment."

Physical Artwork: "Bluest Sky"

By Yurah Son DP1

"The blue sky represents the reducing air pollution due to decreased human activity that limits the amount of emissions. The border between the sky and the black vertical lines show a contrasting effect on the condition of the air before and after the reduced human activity. The boat corresponds with the idea of decreasing pollution as it is one of the transportation that does not release harmful gases.

Physical Artwork: "Wild flowers coming to life"

By Hyorim Lee

"I recently read an article that a plant charity is predicting a boost for wild flowers due to reduced mowing verges and cutting grasses. The article mentioned that the boost of flowers will provide a habitat for species of flowers and bees, which will potentially address the 'pollinator crisis' happening due to lack of habitat for insects. I wanted to emphasize on the bright beautiful colors of the wild flowers to provide a picture of how our surroundings can change after the reduced human activity"

Physical Artwork: "Good or Bad?"

By Ahana Kaur Dhaliwal P3G

Ahana's work portrays the contrasting effects of the pandemic towards the humans and the ecosystem. While humans are suffering from the virus, the ecosystem is benefiting by the reduced human activity. It provides us with a moment to reflect on how much our activities harmed the organisms.

Physical Artwork: "Good or Bad?"

By Malavika Santhosh

"The waters of the Venice canals were previously overcrowded, maligned by the rushing boats and overtourism.  In this chaos, the once Sandy beds and the multi-coloured marine life were hidden from the world by these murky dark stains.

Due to the lockdown, with the decrease in boat activity, the isolation restored the once forgotten flush of blue, bringing back these bright colors back to the romantic streets of Italy again.

Therefore, emphasizing on the more optimistic aspects of these pandemic times we live now, the waters and the skies are highlighted blue, to give hope for humankind to look deeper into the nature we live in and time to reflect at it's grandeur and warmth.

The vibrant colours of blue intents to showcase these precious natural fortunes recovered by the pandemic whilst making us realise the impact we create on this world."

Physical Artwork: "Before and After COVID-19"

By Tang Pui Xi P6Y

Pui Xi showed the conditions of the environment before and after COVID-19. She compiled both to directly show the changes as in the number of cars, reduced deforestation and littering. This shows that COVID-19 is might be a deadly pandemic for the humans but provides the ecosystem an opporunity to replenish.
