ABOUT US

Who we are

How we came up with this project?

Our Purpose

Hello! We are Yurah and Sein, students studying in Fairview International School Kuala Lumpur, currently in the first year of IB Diploma.

We have initiated this Awareness Campaign as our CAS project.

Despite the fact that CAS project was a requirement for an IB student, we hoped to make it meaningful and benefit out Fairview community and also the public. We have gathered up to 60 participants from our school to participate in this project. As this pandemic is a global concern, raising awareness on these aspects supports the International Baccalaureate vision statements and IB learner profile of having an internationally minded attitude.

Our initial plan was a different one from what we are currently doing; they included physical activities such as teaching children in a refugee school in our community, however, due to the MCO (Movement Control Order) we were unable to further proceed with the plan. With the MCO getting extended monthly, we wanted to utilise this time given to us effectively, which lead us to come up with the idea of 'Covid-19 Online Awareness Campaign".

While there are many postal signs for people to keep themselves hygienic, many of the different aspects of the pandemic were seen to be neglected. Therefore we have decided to raise awareness on these aspects such as 'Importance of Social Distancing, Gratitude to the front liners, Mental health during quarantine, Reparation of the Environment due to reduced human activity and Racial Discrimination against Asians'.

Through the students' participation of our project, they were benefited by following:

Psychological Aspect

Better Memory
A study conducted in The Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology suggested that drawn words were better recalled than written. According to the results, drawing improves memory by integrating visual, semantic, and motor aspects of the memory trace. Therefore students were able to obtain a great psychological benefit of creating visual artwork.

Self-esteem booster
Expressing creativity through art is a form of self-expression. Compressed feelings can damage one’s well-being. Art allows an individual to express emotions and thoughts in a healthy manner and providing something positive to focus on, especially during this period of lockdown where most students are facing demotivation. The sense of accomplishment achieved from creating art contributes in building our self-esteem and confidence

Why engage visual images?
Our initial aim of this project is to raise awareness on the neglected aspects of COVID-19. However, we utilize art as a tool to raise people’s awareness due to several reasons.
Firstly, visual learning is considerably easy. Humans process images 60,000 times faster than words. Especially during this time, where technology is extensively advanced in presenting visual materials, society tend to neglect reading long text. Therefore we decided to leave a visual impact to the people to convey our message.
